Pembrokeshire offers the perfect environment and range of conditions for the training and assessment of the BC Sea Kayak Leader Award.
As a prerequisite to the award you should be at or above the BC Sea Kayak /Coastal Sea Kayak Award level. You should be an asset to the group and feel comfortable in up to force 4 winds and 2 Knots of tide. The course is designed to train you up to the BC Sea Kayak Leader level. Equally, if you feel you are paddling at this standard feel free to contact us to discuss where you fit into the BC qualification process.
The BC Sea Kayak Leader Training Course, will cover; personal skills, leadership, improvised rescue and navigation skills, plus Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning (C.N.T.P.) as a theory based course. The aim of the C.N.T.P. course is to provide paddlers with the tools to be able to plan and navigate effectively on coastal journeys in moderate sea conditions, up to 2 nautical miles offshore and in areas of tidal movement of up to 2 knots. During the course there will be the opportunity for trainees to put into practice their planned routes.
At the end of the course, trainees will have opportunity to complete a personalised action plan with their coaches. This provides an opportunity to discuss areas that require attention and ways in which to improve on these.
This course can run for 3 to 4, or 4 to 5 day training days, we recommend and have observed the 4 and 5 day courses as the most beneficial for our trainees. This allows more time to cover the large and diverse syllabus, trainees have more opportunity to practice under the guidance of their coaches and areas in question may be revisited and discussed at greater lengths. One of the days will be solely dedicated to the Coastal Navigation and Tidal planning course.
Prices for the course are as follows:
£210-2 days per person
£300-3 days
£380-4 days
£450-5 days
(All courses require a minimum of 3 people to run.)
