BC Advanced Sea Kayak Leader Assesment
This 2 day course will look at all aspects of the BC Advanced Sea Kayak Leader Award. The Leadership Award is a discipline specific award and you will be assessed in your chosen discipline and appropriate environment. For the BC Advanced Sea Kayak Leader Award you will be assessed leading a group of fellow paddlers of Sea kayak Leader standard/ Coastal Sea Kayak Personal performance award level on sections of advanced tidal water, in winds up to force 5 and tidal streams over 3 knots (see training guidance notes for advanced water definition).
The assessment will include personal paddling, tidal planning, navigation, equipment awareness, environmental awareness and supporting knowledge. In addition to this safety and rescue will be covered along with leadership of a group of 4 paddlers (these will be real ‘mock students’) in advanced tidal waters.
Our assessments will be run around the coast of Pembrokeshire and can include a night navigation exercise on one of the evenings.
The assessment will culminate with concise feedback and an action plan to enable continued progression, ideally coupled with receiving your BC Advanced Sea Kayak Leader Award.
